Obtain an Image

About images at UMMA

The Collections Department maintains an archive of more than 35,000 images, including 4x5 color transparencies, black and white prints and negatives, 35mm color slides, and digital files. Ongoing documentation continually adds new images to the archive. All materials are accessible for reference use, and some formats are available for reproduction.

Copyright for some images is maintained by artists or their estates. In such cases, permission for reproduction must be obtained directly from the artists or their representatives before an image will be provided.

Order an image

All requests must be made in writing. Please include the following information to describe how the image will be used and note the image format you require:

• Contact (name, address, phone, fax, email)
• Image info (artist, title, date, medium, accession number or other identifying information)
• Image format required (4x5 color transparency, 8x10-inch black & white photograph, digital file for print or web/online use)
• Description of use (type of publication, cover or interior, distribution, author, title, publisher, date of publication, print run, term duration)

Prepayment is not required; an invoice will be sent with the image and permissions paperwork. Delivery times range from 1–6 weeks, depending upon availability of images and requested formats. If new photography is required, delivery can take 6–8 weeks.
