Object Study Classrooms

UMMA’s Paper and Object Study Classrooms allow for the close study of works of art from UMMA’s collection. The vast majority of UMMA’s collection of 20,000 objects not currently on display may be requested for viewing, with some restrictions based on size and availability. The Study Rooms are available by appointment Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.

The Ernestine and Herbert Ruben Study Center for Works on Paper has space to display approximately 15 two-dimensional works depending on their size, and the Object Study Classroom has capacity for the display of the same number of three-dimensional objects. Groups are limited to 20 people, with some flexibility for slightly larger university classes.

Due to the proximity to original works of art, there is no food or drink allowed in the study rooms, and writing must be done with pencil only.

Timing your visit:
Please schedule your visits to the object study classrooms and provide your list of selected artworks at least 15 business days in advance. If the list of selections is received later than this point, we will make every effort to pull the requested objects but cannot guarantee that they will all be available.
