First (and Second) Thursday Performance Series

In this monthly series, we invite musicians, dancers, and actors to respond to the visual arts and interpret the themes of our exhibitions in diverse media. Recent performances have included "Slave Moth," a multimedia dance performance in celebration of a three-part series of African art from regional collections as well as Art of the Lega: Meaning and Metaphor in Central Africa; an evening of Arabic poetry in conjunction with Art of the Written Word in the Middle East and the UM theme semester Cultural Treasures of the Middle East; and a jazz concert highlighting the exhibition Surfing the Century: Twentieth-Century Art. These Thursday evening events are free of charge.
