Growing UMMA’s endowment continues to be a top goal for the coming years. Because the University manages endowment funds for the long term, a strong fund for the Museum will ensure its future stability and vitality. It is also an immensely gratifying way for individuals to know that what they value most about UMMA will flourish far beyond their lifetimes.

In addition to the endowment of a named Directorship and several key curatorial positions, many of the new initiatives and programs made possible by UMMA’s transformed facility present exciting new endowment opportunities. For example, endowments are being sought to support:

  • Special exhibitions at UMMA—showcasing works across media, time, and disciplines—in the A. Alfred Taubman Galleries
  • “UMMA Projects,” cutting-edge exhibitions of contemporary art presented in the Irving Stenn, Jr, Family Project Gallery
  • Performance events in the UMMA Apse and Helmut Stern Auditorium
  • Lecture series and curated film and video screenings
  • Educational outreach programs for school-age children
  • Conservation of works from the collections

These possibilities only hint at the critical areas in which endowment support can strengthen and secure the Museum’s future. We hope that all of UMMA’s friends will consider helping UMMA realize its full potential; lifetime or planned endowment giving is a great way to do just that.
