Conservation at UMMA UMMA Senior Conservator Kewei Wang has been keeping busy in the beautifully outfitted new Robert B. Jacobs Asian Art Conservation Lab since the Museum's reopening. In August she completed a condition survey of over 200 Chinese paintings from the Seattle Art Museum, UMMA's first project for this important West Coast collection. She also recently wrapped up the complete restoration of a Japanese folding screen and repair work on a contemporary Chinese painting for the Toledo Museum of Art. In July Wang visited the Cleveland Museum of Art to survey a small selection of their renowned Chinese painting collection and UMMA looks forward to building an ongoing relationship with that esteemed institution. Finally, the Museum's summer conservation intern returned to Taiwan in August after a very successful and enriching four months of training. UMMA will host another intern from the same institution in Taiwan, Tainan University of the Arts, beginning in March 2011. |
