Imagining Eden: Connecting Landscapes

March 31–June 3, 2007

This project represents a long-term study of idealized human-made landscapes by California-based artist Lyle Gomes. Created over a sixteen-year period, Gomes’s images of parks, golf courses, gardens, and garden cemeteries explore the enduring human impulse to shape the landscape and to strive for a harmonious balance between humankind and nature. Gomes’s meditative horizontal-format photographs examine this intermingling of constructed features with the felicitous “accidents” of natural forms.
