The Orchid Pavilion Gathering: Chinese Painting from the University of Michigan Museum of Art

Highlights of the Museum’s renowned collection of Chinese painting are presented in this exhibition of sixty major works. Spanning over 900 years, these paintings document many of the major developments in Chinese painting, a medium with important links to the history, culture, and politics of China. Many of the works on view are large scrolls and, due to their fragility, are exhibited only rarely. This landmark exhibition is accompanied by an extensive two-volume exhibition catalogue by former University of Michigan Senior Curator of Asian Art, Marshal Wu.
