MOSAIC Presents: Farhad, or The Secret of Being

Farhad, or The Secret of Being is a one-act documentary musical by Jim Bauer and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Nilo Cruz. This musical meditation invites us to see the world through the eyes of Farhad, a twelve year old Afghan girl who has lived her whole life as a boy and must suddenly assume a female identity to get married. The phenomenon of these “secret girls”, or bacha posh, is quite prevalent in Afghanistan, where being a woman comes incredible pain and difficulty. Performed by students from the School of Music Theatre and Dance and produced by MOSAIC, Intercultural Performance Ensemble.

Produced by MOSAIC, Farhad, or The Secret of Being is co-sponsored by the University of Michigan Museum of Art, Arts at Michigan, and Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs.
